Wilcox Associates Inc., a software company owned by Hexagon Metrology, has introduced new statistical software package, DATAPAGE + Desktop Version 4.1 (DP+).
This is a compliment to the new software released a few years back, PC-DMIS 4.0 - PC-DMIS 2010mr3. DP+ supports the new method of reporting dimensions in PC-DMIS called Xactmeasure GD&T. The new reporting method is a closer representation of the ASME Y14.5 1994 and 2009 standard than has been used in prior releases of PC-DMIS.
To migrate from the legacy version, DATAPAGE R/T 3.33 (DP 3.33), an export of the existing data must be completed. To do this is rather easy once done a few a times. The data can be exported either en masse or one part program at a time. There are two methods for saving statistics in the legacy version. The first method would be to direct all part program data into a single database. The second method is to create a database for each customer. As an example, ABC Company manufactures cogs and sprockets for Harley-Davidson, GM, Ford, and Cummins. Rather than having all the data gathered into one database, each company would have its’ own database for easier retrieval of data later. In the new version, DP +, only one database are used because the software takes advantage of the new method of database management called Microsoft SQL Server. This is used internationally throughout business.
To begin the migration from old to new is simple. First, set up the new software per the OEM directions with the help of the IT department. Next, close DP+ and open DP 3.33. Once the software is open go to |FILE|OPEN DATABASE|…

Find the database that is needed to be exported and open it. Once opened, go to |FILE|EDITOR|…

..and open the EDITOR. This is the area that will allow the export of the data. The data will be saved to an ASCII formatted file with an extension of .dmp (dump). Using the mouse, navigate to |ASCII ARCHIVE|DUMP| to begin the dump process.

A file name will need to be defined as well as the target destination for the file.

Once the file has been named and the location defined, click “OK”. To choose the program data to export click on the LIST DB button and choose the name of the program from which data is to be dumped. It is at this point that one part or numerous parts could be chosen for dumping. All the data would be imported into DP+ and then folders would further define the part names and the customer. This will be explained in more detail.

A start and end date may be chosen but is not necessary.

If no dates are filled in the software will export all dates. Otherwise, put the cursor in the start date and/or end dateThe check box for dumping queries should be checked if queries have been used in the gathering of data in DP 3.33. All variable sets will be automatically pulled into the dump file. Once the above mentioned items are addressed, the next action is to click on the DUMP button. At this point the progress bar will open.

Once the process is complete click on the button that says COMPLETE; this will bring back the main ASCII DUMP screen. Click on CANCEL in order to complete the export. DP 3.33 can now be closed.
Open DP+ and log on…

In the upper left hand corner will be an area called TOOLS…

…Click on |TOOLS|IMPORT DATA|
Click NEXT.

Browse to where the .dmp file has been saved.

Click OPEN and the path will be automatically filled.

A window now presents a list of all the parts that were exported from DP 3.33. In this case, we only chose one part for export. Click NEXT.

A window now presents a list of dates. All or some of the dates may be imported. Click NEXT.

A window now presents a list of variable sets. There was only one associated with the exported data for this example. Click NEXT.

A window now presents a list of dimensions. Click NEXT.

A window now presents a list of all previous choices for review. Click FINISH if satisfied with the data that will be imported.

A window now presents itself when the operation is completed successfully.

The importation is now complete and the resulting file(s) can be viewed using the reports and charts available in DATAPAGE + Desktop Version 4.1.
